Listed building surveys

A listed building survey is essentially a condition survey for homeowners but encompasses an outline of repairs along with the urgency of the repairs, a statement of significance, and a heritage impact assessment for the proposed repairs.

Whilst repairs do not necessarily require listed building consent, we frequently find that such is the volume of repairs required to historic properties arising from inappropriate materials, and poor workmanship that the nature of the work can prove to be very extensive. The black and white timber frame properties of the UK and the cob cottages of the South West often require extensive repair work to halt further decay.

As part of the survey, we will also advise on potentially illegal works undertaken on the property by previous owners.

Localised opening up of a sill beam in a 1600s timber frames thatch cottage in Gloucestershire. The damage to the sill beam caused by the cement render was extensive but not to the extent that a full replacement was required.
